Meditation – Beginners

meditation, beginners meditation, hatha yoga, mental health, sun and salt wellness

What if I told you, you could meditate or yoga your way to a happier you? Some of you might say, “I’m in!” Others might say, “There’s no way.” Others might say, “That won’t work for me.” If you answered any of these you are completely right. What you are already open and vulnerable too will come to fruition.

My coworker and I were talking about the over glorification of working that exists here in the United States and how there’s a common thread of physical ailments. Our land is the “land of opportunity” no doubt, but the overworking and overstressing to get the salary, keep the position, and live the “American Dream” is driving everyone to an early grave.

In a recent book I read, Meditate Your Weight, author and founder of Yoga Medicine Tiffany Cruikshank, “The mind-body connection is actually a bit milabled. Our “mind” lives in our nervous system, which is most definitely part of the “body.” What happens in the mind can create a direct physical effect on the rest.”

Stress. It’s everywhere, everyone has it. Stress is the response you give to something happening outside of your mind-body. Most of us are never directly taught in childhood how to respond to things. We emulate these responses. If the adults rearing respond a certain way then chances are we mirror them. As adults or parents of small children we get to identify these disproportionate responses and through training the brain and the respective neuroplasticity in order to evolve and learn new ways of responding to stress.

“We humans are an odd bunch; we’ll cling to our self-image whether it’s hurting us or not and no matter what type of self-sabotage might be required to maintain it. The trick is you make this innovative drive toward self-fulfilling prophecy work for you rather than against you.”

Wellness is an “active pursuit” of intentions, choices, and actions as we work towards optimal health and wellness. In simpler words: Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits on a daily basis to attain better physical and mental health.

If you’ve never meditated before, here you will find my first recorded beginner’s meditation for you to enjoy. You may come back to it as often as you’d like. I have recorded more that will be shared as I go. Namaste!
